- The manananggal (sometimes confused with the Wak wak and Aswang), which translates to "one who removes/takes off/separates (context: ...limbs, body parts, etc)", is a vampire-like mythical creature native to the Philippines, a malevolent, man-eating and blood-sucking monster or witch.[1]
- Folklore suggests that sprinkling salt, herbs, or other holy substances on the bottom half of a Manananggal will prevent it from being able to reunite itself into a whole woman and hunt more victims.[2]
