Midgard is the name of the world of Normans in the Ragnarök universe.

Geography

The main continent of the world is unnamed and is only known for the 3 countries that reside on it: Rune-Midgarts, the Schwarzwald Republic, and the Arunafeltz States. Other countries exist on other unnamed continents as well; these include the cities of Kunlun, Amatsu, Louyang, Ayothaya, Moscovia, Brasilis, Dewata, and Malaya. The entire world changes significantly each time a Ragnarök event happens. Mountains and oceans shift and civilizations evolve or are born anew.

History

Age of Gods
A long time ago, the Thousand-Year War took place, resulting in the deaths of Baldr and Fenrir. During this time, the Jotunn Surt unleashed his minions on the world but was defeated by the Aesir. Meanwhile, Jormungandr's attack on Midgard was halted by Tristan Gaebolg I and 6 other warriors, all of whom would cooperate together to establish the Rune-Midgarts Kingdom.

At war's end, Normans, demons, and the gods entered a truce and forged a fragile peace that would last for the next 1000 years.

In A.W. (After War) 400, Surt attempts to burn the world again, but instead of the Aesir, Surt was opposed by the lone knight Thanatos. For 10 days and nights, Surt and Thanatos engaged in a battle of epic proportion. Their strikes and blows sundered the earth and shook the heavens. On the last day, Thanatos manages to defeat Surt and seal the jotunn into Midgard's crust, over which a shrine is built to maintain the seal.

Some time afterwards, the Assassins Guild was formed in order to maintain balance amongst the Normans, demons, and gods in order to prevent another Thousand-Year War and turn Midgard into a battlefield again.

In A.W. 995, Fenris' sealed memories were released, prompting her to begin her search for Baldr's reincarnation. Two years passed before Fenris finds the god's reincarnation, who goes by the name Chaos.

In A.W. 997, an attempt was made to free Surt from his prison, but was thwarted by the efforts of the Assassins Guild.

During this time, the city of Morroc was developed and Schwarzwald entered its industrial age.

Some time later, a second attempt to resurrect Surt was made and succeeded, leading to the utter destruction of Morroc. In his escape, Surt ripped open a dimensional gorge, allowing adventurers to enter a previously unreachable area of the world of Midgard. This place was dubbed the Ash Vacuum. In addition, the Arunafeltz States was discovered and the religious worship of Freyja (Freyjanity) was introduced to the world.

It is assumed that around A.W. 1000, Chaos and his friends manage to defeat Freyja and her valkyries, sealing Freyja away in her homeworld of Vanaheim. This day later becomes known as the Day of Despair. The Age of Gods was put to an end and Ragnarök finally came to pass.

Age of Man
Marked by Neu Era (N.E.), the Age of Man progressed Midgard into an age free of divine and demonic interventions for the next 300 years. The Day of Despair and Ragnarök had become nothing more than a tale of the past.
