Zid was a poor man who became a test subject for an unknown experiment. His mutation led him and others like him to colonize a cave north of Einbroch.

Zid was tired of being hungry and worrying about food so he volunteered to be a test subject in an experiment. The laboratory where he was experimented on was built to test and duplicate Odin's power of creation. The scientists failed to achieve their objective and caused unfortunate events to occur by trying to manipulate materials that were difficult to even examine. The scientists believed their research would open a whole new world for Normankind. Eva was one of the scientists. Though unkind to him, she sympathized with Zid's desperation.
Then one day, someone set the laboratory on fire, which completely burned down the building. Zid and Eva were able to escape before they could be discovered and settle in a cave north of Einbroch as they couldn't coexist with Normans now that they were mutants. A test subject that Eva saved from the fire grew up into a normal-looking Norman, but perfect. The boy ran away around the age of 10 and Eva couldn't forget about the boy so she waited for him to return to the cave. The boy sent letters, but eventually those stopped. That was when Eva disappeared. As time went by, Zid came to believe Eva is no longer of this world.[1]
